Authentic Duas and Quranic Ayahs for Protection from Sihr (Black Magic)

Sihr (black magic) is a real phenomenon mentioned in the Quran and authentic Sunnah. Allah warns against it in the Quran, and the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was affected by sihr before Allah cured him through revelation. Muslims are taught to seek Allah's protection through sincere faith, regular worship, the Quran, authentic supplications (duas), and reliance upon Him.

This guide shares authentic Quranic ayahs and duas for seeking Allah's protection from sihr, along with their Arabic text, transliteration, translation, and practical guidance.

Understanding Sihr in Islam

Islam affirms that sihr is real and that it can only affect people by Allah's permission. However, not every hardship, illness, or difficulty is caused by sihr. Muslims should avoid making assumptions and should seek appropriate medical care and practical solutions alongside spiritual remedies.

The Quran and authentic Sunnah teach believers to strengthen their relationship with Allah through prayer, remembrance (dhikr), Quran recitation, and sincere supplication.

Quranic Ayahs for Protection from Sihr

1. Ayat al-Kursi (Quran 2:255)

Arabic:

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ...

Transliteration:

Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwa al-ḥayyu al-qayyūm. Lā ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa lā nawm...

Translation:

"Allah—there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep..."

How to Recite:

Recite Ayat al-Kursi after each obligatory prayer and before sleeping. It is among the greatest Quranic verses for seeking Allah's protection.

2. Surah Al-Ikhlas (112), Surah Al-Falaq (113) and Surah An-Nas (114)

These three surahs were regularly recited by the Prophet ﷺ for protection.

Surah Al-Falaq highlights:

"And from the evil of the blowers in knots."

"And from the evil of an envier when he envies."

Surah An-Nas seeks Allah's protection from the whispers of Shaytan.

How to Recite:

Recite these surahs in the morning, evening, and before sleeping, following the Sunnah.

3. The Last Two Verses of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:285–286)

The Prophet ﷺ informed us of the great virtue of these verses when recited at night.

Reciting them regularly is among the authentic means of seeking Allah's protection.

4. Verses About Musa (AS) Defeating the Magicians

Many scholars also recite the following passages during ruqyah because they describe Allah nullifying magic:

  • Surah Al-A'raf (7:117–122)
  • Surah Yunus (10:81–82)
  • Surah Taha (20:68–70)

These verses remind believers that no form of magic can overcome Allah's power.
